Hours before the 2023 Chicago Auto Show's start, the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander made its world debut to display the newest and best addition to Toyota's popular SUV lineup. The Grand Highlander Hybrid offers a blend of comfort and luxury, catering to the dynamic needs of active families. The name "Grand" derives from the luxurious three-row SUV's enormous dimensions, huge storage capacity, and cutting-edge technology that elevates it above other models of its kind.

The Grand Highlander is built on the reliable TNGA-K platform known for its exceptional structural rigidity. Calty Design Studio, operating in North America as a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, was responsible for delivering the creative concepts for the Grand Highlander. This sizable SUV is made from the same platform as most modern Toyota and Lexus models. Toyota’s newest Grand Highlander will surely disrupt the large three-row SUV market and provide a persuading alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Palisade, Chevrolet Traverse, Honda Pilot, Volkswagen Atlas, Subaru Ascent, Mazda CX-9, and Kia Telluride.

The Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid is designed to cater to the various needs of modern families on the move. It boasts thoughtful storage compartments that allow all occupants to keep essentials within reach. The configurable center console not only accommodates a tablet but also comes equipped with a wireless charger, two USB ports, and three cupholders, including one that can securely hold a large water bottle. Passengers also get their share of amenities, with a pocket for a small bag on the passenger side of the dashboard, additional USB ports, and trays for convenient charging and storage. For large families, the Grand Highlander Hybrid is the ultimate trip companion.

Versatility extends to the second and third rows. Second-row passengers enjoy air conditioning controls, USB ports, and cupholders that are thoughtfully placed for easy reach. The captain's seat configuration gets extra perks, smartphone storage slit, and a multi-purpose tray on the rear console. Third-row passengers, who are mostly overlooked in many vehicles, are well catered to with individual USB outlets, storage for smartphones and tablets, and cup and bottle holders on the deck side. Finally, there's room for seven carry-on suitcases behind the third row. And, when the seats are folded down, a total of around 98 cubic feet of space opens.

Inspired by the classic Highlander shape, the Grand Highlander Hybrid infuses an entirely new aura of sophistication with its trapezoidal, hammerhead front grille and available 20-inch wheels. The body-colored rear pillars exude robustness and utility for the third row when seen on the road. Black rockers impart a rugged and raised SUV appearance, further complementing its versatile nature. The side surface flows seamlessly from the doors through the fenders to the front and rear tires, delivering a sleek yet dynamic-looking design that commands attention wherever it roams.

While the exterior exudes elegance, it's the interior that truly leaves a lasting impression. Step inside, and you will see the soft-padded instrument panel, which seemingly floats above the available wood-effect ornamentation, creating an ambiance of refined luxury. The functional tray shape, seamlessly integrated between the panel and door trim, adds a touch of practicality without compromising on style. A sturdy console in the center exudes the finesse of a finely crafted sofa, contributing to the ambiance of a comfortable living room-like space.

Both the driver and passengers are treated to an exceptional experience. The instrument panel's upper form extends into the door trim, creating an expansive and open environment. Independent driver and passenger side armrests further enhance comfort, allowing usability even with the console lid open. Ornamentation accents elevate the interior, reminiscent of a modern work of art carved from a solid piece of wood. The high-quality leather stitch work adds a touch of sophistication, while exclusive bronze-colored accents in the Hybrid MAX variant lend a unique and upscale feel.

The spacious adult-sized third row ensures that every passenger, no matter where they sit, enjoys a comfortable and enjoyable ride. Occupants in the third row of seats enjoy an elevated seating position with enough headroom. In other words, they are able to look over the heads of those in the middle row. This offers some comfort that cannot be found in many three-row SUVs out there.
